19th century Italian Bronze sculpture Narcissus

A real statement piece. An antique Italian bronze sculpture of Narcissus, the Greek God referred to as the Self Lover, sitting on a marble plinth. Ideal as an impressive statement piece for a grand entrance, library, drawing room or indeed in the garden. This sculptural depiction of Narcissus, famed for his extraordinary beauty and his self-obsession, is of a slender, classically inspired male figure in a relaxed, contemplative pose, mounted on a substantial circular marble pedestal. The naturalistic figure has an expressive, slightly bowed head with a beautifully aged patination, giving the sculpture considerable depth and character.

According to the myth, Narcissus rejected the love of others. As punishment, he was made to fall in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. Unable to tear himself away from the image, he eventually died, and a narcissus flower (often identified with the daffodil) grew where he died.
