A pair of Yellow Glazed antique Confit Pots

£320.00

Unusually large bulbous pair of yellow glazed French antique confit pots. These authentic partially glazed earthenware pots boast a beautifully rich coloration. Confit jars originated in Southern France during the 19th century and were traditionally used for preserving food, particularly duck. The upper portion of the jar was glazed, as it remained above ground, while the unglazed lower half was wrapped in cloth and buried to keep its contents cool. A quintessential piece of French pottery, these traditional confit jars—adorned with their distinctive yellow glaze—were famously depicted in Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers. A timeless staple of 19th-century French kitchens, they make a stunning addition to any home or garden. These are priced as a pair but can be sold individually.
