Antique French Biot Jar
Biot jars, so named, originated from Biot in Southern France, (as did Castlenaundary from Castlenaundary and Anduze from Anduze; all from the South of France). Made from terracotta, this eye catching biot storage pot has a vibrant yellow glaze both inside and out and has a wonderful rounded, shapely body. A delight to decorate the home, garden or conservatory. Used to preserve olives, the rim was always glazed to prevent the olive oil seeping into the terracotta of the jar. This earthenware storage jar cira 1900’s.
